Dr. Sharon Hull has spent a lifetime in the space of career transitions, first her own and now as an Executive Coach specialized in helping others navigate successful career transitions. She has a powerful way of holding space for others who are reflecting on this often difficult and complex process.
This episode of the She Knows ShiFt! Podcast is so full of valuable information for those who are thinking about a transition or deeply involved in the process. One of the powerful analogies that Sharon and I discussed was her analogy of thinking about what wall your ladder is up against. There are many walls that you might choose to climb at any point in your career and choosing the one that is right for you, in your current space and time, is an active process of self reflection. Knowing your values, what is really important to you, is vital in defining what wall you might choose to climb and where you might consider moving your ladder to next. Being willing to move your ladder to another wall, seek out a new opportunity, even when you are still on your way up your current wall can be daunting, but it is doable! The fear inherent in some people who are more than halfway up the ladder and are faced with uncertainty in making an important transition is a space in which coaching can be such a valuable ally.
How women shiFt is a topic dear to both our hearts. It was a great discussion of important considerations and the ways in which women define themselves that makes transitions different for them. Although we did not speak to it specifically, it reminded me of the work I do with women about the power of confidence and being willing to take a leap if there is something that appears to align with their values and vision of a life well lived.
I loved Sharon’s reflections around ‘The Great Resignation’ or even changing steps on the ladder and how this represents a new found courage people have adopted in defining their careers and their lives. This is a new season for really focusing on values and seeking more fulfillment in professional and personal roles. We speak about how this will shift progress in the workplace as people become more willing to seek out and constantly redefine what they are looking for.
This episode is accompanied by a fabulous workbook that Sharon uses to introduce clients to her work. You can download your complementary copy at this link.
